The Dam

The Dam

South Africa, 1985. William Horne, a financially-struggling coloured father of five, finds his life turned upside down when the school bus that he is driving crashes into the Westdene Dam, killing 41 white children.

This results in a political storm with him at the centre as authorities try to determine whether his actions were accidental or politically motivated, the event amplified by the fact that the Apartheid government had just declared a State of Emergency in the nation.

This Afrikaans/English language film has recently been selected as one of the ‘No Borders’ projects at IFP Week 2019 with production scheduled for that later part of 2019.

Written and directed by SAFTA winner Brett Michael Innes, the film will be produced by Paulo Areal (Ellen Pakkies), Schalk Willem Burger (Ellen Pakkies), Claudia Noble-Areff and Innes with production funding from the National Film & Video Foundation. It will be set-up as a Dutch/SA co-production with Raymond van der Kaaij from Revolver Amsterdam facilitating the Dutch side of production.

You can find out more about the film on IMDb.
