Description: Set in Fordsburg during the 80’s and the present day, BISMILLAH follows the Hassan family and the restaurant that they run during both time periods. Love, life, loss and food collide as the restaurant becomes a gathering point for people in the community. In the past we have Zahid, a young boxer at the start of his career, who is forced by injury to start a restaurant with his wife, Lena. His struggles with his new role as father pushes him to breaking point and he is forced by circumstance to borrow money from the wrong people. In the present is Zahid’s son, Asad, an openly gay man who is trying to keep his deceased father’s struggling restaurant going as Fordsburg faces the threat of gentrification. His world is made even more complicated when he falls for Sanjay, an artist from a wealthy family.
